Custom Pricing for Custom Inflatables

Posted in Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Custom Inflatable Prices

Why aren't there any prices listed on your site?

Because we create custom inflatables we have no set price list. Each project is quoted based on your precise specifications.  As you might expect, a 6-foot sealed inflatable sphere with a simple design will cost significantly less than a 30-foot tall product replica.

Depending on the type and size, custom inflatables from Landmark Creations can run between $500 and $25,000.  Every aspect of your project is considered so you get the perfect size for your event(s) along with exacting detail in the design and production of your balloon. What's more, the use of premium materials guarantees true value that performs well for years to come. The results are obvious the first time your inflatable goes public: crowds look, people gather and cameras begin to click. That's the Landmark advantage.

We have helped companies get the most for their promotional dollars since 1986. Regardless of the marketing level, inflatables shine by increasing exposure and creating intrigue for events and products.  You'll find many case studies that demonstrate how custom inflatables from Landmark Creations improve results.

Not ready for a custom balloon?  If you have a smaller budget (under $500), we'll be glad to refer you to a vendor who specializes in the type of inflatable you're looking for. Other good resources include Gemmy.com or even Walmart, eBay and party supply stores if you're looking for yard inflatables.

Take a minute to determine which types of inflatables are best-suited for your needs.  Then contact us today for a quote on your specific project.

Is That Inflatable Really a Bargain?

It never fails. You get quotes on new inflatables and one quote is much lower than the others. You go with the bargain company thinking you’ve saved your company or client several hundred dollars. Soon afterward you begin having trouble with your purchase. As it turns out, this “bargain-priced” inflatable doesn’t have much “value.”

The old saying, “You get what you pay for” really is true. Yes, there are companies out there who can and do offer rock bottom pricing on inflatables. However, if you look closely at the major differences they don’t tell you about, you’ll quickly see that saving a little money on the front end can cause you or your client lots of heartache and frustration down the road.

Quality Adds To the Cost

When you purchase a quality inflatable, it will be designed to last for years to come, to install flawlessly every time, and to hold up well through many inflations, deflations and shipments. That’s because quality inflatables (like the ones Landmark Creations offers) have certain things in common.

Construction

Look for double-stitched seams at the pressure points. Also ask questions about the specifics of the anchoring system. Nothing ruins a promotion more quickly than an inflatable that tries to “fly away” in the middle of all the fun. Does your inflatable look “lumpy?” That means extra care was not taken with the baffling. Inflatables of questionable quality will lack a smooth, flat surface. Also pay attention to the design. Is it realistic? Does it match your logo, mascot, or product? Unrealistic replicas really damage branding.

Fabrics

Look for premium quality materials including 7.5 - 18 ounce UV and vinyl-coated nylon. Make sure it is flame retardant!

Hardware

Wind, rain and other weather elements really wreak havock on inflatables. The hardware included with your balloon should be of the highest quality in order to keep your inflatable steady and in place throughout your promotion.

Artwork

None of the above really matters if you don’t have an inflatable that looks exactly like you imagined. Poor artwork and craftsmanship can lead to a replica of your product or mascot that appears “cheap.” Always ask to see samples before ordering an inflatable. Be sure the artist and his/her staff are skilled and talented with reproductions of this type.

Once you have the whole story about the quotes you’ve received, you’ll be able to make a more informed decision about which inflatable truly offers the most value for the price.

Preparing Art for Custom Inflatables

Posted in Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How To Send Us Your Art

Before building your inflatable, we will need certain types of artwork from you. This might include logos, graphics or other images.

You can usually get these files from your company's design department, design house or ad agency. Note: If the art is to be used as part of an inflatable product, it must be the "flat artwork." (Your graphics person will understand that term.) We cannot use a photograph of the three-dimensional product itself. Instead, you should send the art that was used to create the product's packaging.

How to send artwork to Landmark Creations

If possible, supply a color correct hard copy of your final layout, including call-outs for critical Pantone swatch colors. Under normal circumstances, artwork must be provided 3 to 4 weeks prior to the shipment of your inflatable.

UPLOAD YOUR ART

USE THE BUTTON ABOVE, OR CLICK HERE TO SEND YOUR ART

CHOICE OF FORMATS:

Vector Graphics

Vector Graphic Example

Customers whose inflatable or banner will require digitally printed graphics, paint, silk-screen, vinyl graphics, hand painting or appliqué should use vector graphics. Vector graphics are good for producing crisp outlines for logos and illustrations. Your art department will know what vector graphics are.

Instructions For Your Art Department:

• Recommended file formats are .AI, .PDF, or .EPS.
• CMYK Color mode is recommended.
• Convert all fonts to outlines and embed any linked images.

Bitmap Images (AKA Raster Images)

Bitmap Art Example

Customers who don't have vector graphics for their artwork will need to remit their drawings in bitmap form. Your graphics person will understand what bitmap images are.

Instructions For Your Art Department:

• Recommended file formats are .PSD or .TIF.
• Do NOT use any type of file compression (such as .JPEG or .GIF files).
• CMYK Color mode is recommended.

Raster Art Size Specifications:

Resolution: For most applications we recommend the final art be 72 dpi when printed at full scale.

You can quickly determine the suggested size of your art file by using the equation below:

Final Project Size (in inches) x 72 (dpi) = Art File Dimensions Needed (in pixels)

For example, if the banner for your inflatable will be 24 inches by 12 inches, to match our recommended resolution of 72dpi, the art file you send us should be at least 1728 (px) x 864 (px).

     24 (inches) x 72 (dpi) = 1728 (px)
     12 (inches) x 72 (dpi) = 864 (px)

Additional Notes

If your files contain a combination of raster and vector artwork: Make sure to embed your raster images in the file, or include them separately if linked. Include a copy of all fonts used in case corrections are needed.

Zoning Regulations (Pulling Permits) for Inflatables

Posted in Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Zoning and Permits for Custom Inflatables

How To Pull City Permits for Advertising Inflatables

The zoning of inflatable outdoor advertising falls to each, individual city.  That, in and of itself, should be enough to tell you this is a complicated issue. Policies for using inflatables oftentimes fall under the city’s sign ordinance. Oftentimes policies are ambiguous, referring to inflatables as “ambient” balloons or devices, which could apply to either helium or cold-air inflatables. Other cities are more specific.

Just as the definition of inflatables is confusing, actual regulations can be just as frustrating to comprehend. So what is a business to do? Here is some information we've gathered over the years from a variety of sources. This information does not equate to suggestions from Landmark Creations, but is rather a list of facts and opinions for you to take under consideration when researching the zoning regulations in your town.

Usually the city’s planning department is in charge of offering permits so they are always a good source for information. Some cities post their regulations and applications on their websites. Normally, one of three things is found. Each city either:
   1. Bans the use of inflatable advertising. (Like Burnsville, where Landmark is located.)
   2. Has restrictions on the content, size or duration of inflatable use.
   3. Has no restrictions whatsoever.

If a business owner is inclined to understand their city’s policy (as opposed to hoping for the best) s/he typically chooses:
   1. To follow the city’s regulations to the letter (which means not using inflatables in cities where this is banned).
   2. To purchase and install the inflatable unless or until the business is asked to take it down.

When businesses think about using outdoor inflatables they might consider how long the inflatable will be needed and whether or not inflatables are legal in their city.  We have been told that in cities where inflatables are not allowed, businesses find the increased revenue inflatable advertising generates more than compensates for any fine they may incur.

Before making any decision, it’s a good idea to call the zoning office or city hall. You can always call anonymously or do your research via the Internet so as not to make your business suspect. We have also been told that many inflatable users take a brief tour of their areas in search of inflatable advertising that is currently in use. This is a good indicator of whether others in your city have chosen to use inflatables. You'll want to have all the facts and opinions before deciding which route to take.

If a business wants to rent an inflatable and have it professionally installed, we've been told that many installers will offer a discount if the business is forced to take down the inflatable prematurely. It’s a good idea to discuss this with the installer prior to the event.

While Landmark Creations never advocates breaking the law, we do encourage you to find out the facts from your local government offices and other business owners in your area. With all the details in hand, you can make the best decision for you and your business.

Electricity: Calculate Running Cost Of An Inflatable

Posted in Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How Much Does It Cost To Operate a Giant Inflatable?

Wondering how much an inflatable costs to operate? If you know how many cents per kilowatt hour (kWh) you pay for electricity, it's easy to calculate the running cost of your inflatable by multiplying one by the other.

How To Calculate the Electricity Consumption (in kWh)

You need to use kilowatts in your calculations, so if your rating plate is expressed in watts instead of kilowatts, divide that number by 1000 to determine kilowatts. If your rating plate is expressed in volts and amps, multiply the volts by the amps = watts, then divide by 1000 to get kilowatts.

The kilowatt rating of an appliance is equal to the number of units of electricity it consumes per hour of operation. Those units of electricity are expressed in kilowatt hours (kWh).

  • Our internal Fasco blower system uses .336 units (kWh) of electricity per hour.
  • Our internal Fantech blower system uses .152 units (kWh) of electricity per hour.
  • Our externa1 Dri Eaz blower system uses 1.32 units (kWh) of electricity per hour.

Calculate Running Cost

Refer to your latest electricity bill to find out the unit rate you are paying for electricity. It is expressed in cents per kWh. Most locations have 2 rates - one for peak supply and one for off-peak. Use the peak rate to calculate running costs of your inflatable system.

Multiply kWh by electricity cost

If your electricity cost is 12 cents per unit:

  • An average 8' inflatable will cost .336 x 0.12 = 4 cents per hour to run. (about $0.97 USD per day.)
  • An average 20' inflatable will cost 1.32 x 0.12 = 16 cents per hour to run. (about $3.80 USD per day.)
  • If you add a 300w light system, it will cost 1.0 x 0.12 = 12 cents per hour. (about $2.88 USD per day.)

So, as you can see, not only are the inflatables themselves the best value for outdoor advertising, they are also inexpensive to operate, thus keeping your overhead costs low!

Getting Started - Basic FAQ

Posted in Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Basic Frequently Asked Questions about Advertising Inflatables

Q: What is a cold-air inflatable?

A: Custom inflatables that are labeled cold-air require a blower system (fan) to keep them upright. Cold-air inflatables include sports tunnels, large product replicas, mascots, rooftop inflatables, etc. Cold-air inflatables do not “fly” or float in the air like helium-filled inflatables.

Q. I’m looking to rent an inflatable (fill-in-the-blank) – can Landmark help me?

A. Sorry, but no. We do not rent inflatables, each of our structures are custom manufactured for purchase only. We do not have anything in-stock as everything is made to order with your specific needs in mind. We think it’s better that way!

Q: What is included in my inflatable purchase?

A: Depending upon what you purchase your inflatable can include a blower system, installation hardware, instructions, ground stakes, tethers, cambuckles, a repair kit all wrapped up in a storage bag. We also offer specialty storage and shipping container options upon request.

Q: Do inflatables need constant airflow? How does it stay inflated?

A: The answer is different depending on the type of inflatable you have. Landmark specializes in cold-air inflatables; this style does require a constant source of airflow. Our custom inflatables come complete with a blower that should be kept running while the inflatable is in use. Sealed inflatables do not require a source of airflow. Helium inflatables do not require a source of airflow, but must be filled with 99% pure helium to remain afloat. The helium will need to be replenished every three to five days.

Q: Does my blower system need to stay plugged in and turned on to keep it inflated?

A: Yes. Cold-air inflatables require a blower system (fan) to keep it upright. You’ll need to plug in the blower system, turn it on & keep it on as long as your promotion lasts!

Q: How is the blower (fan system) attached?

A: That depends on the type of blower your inflatable has. For external blowers use the zipper and Velcro strap to simply attach the blower sleeve to the blower tube. Internal blowers are permanently installed in the inflatable. No action is necessary.

Q. Can I hang a custom inflatable from the ceiling (at a trade show, museum, etc.)?

A. But of course! Our inflatables can be designed with the blower system placed at the top of the structure allowing it to be hung. An inflatable used in this way will include the hanging hardware required for installation. Note: If you plan to suspend an inflatable at your next trade show review the regulations and requirements of the show prior to purchasing!

Q: Do you provide straps to keep inflatables grounded?

A: Yes, cold-air shapes do come with tether straps and ground stakes that keep the inflatables secured to the ground or roof.

Q. I can’t use ground stakes at my location? What can I use to secure my inflatable?

A. Depending upon how large your inflatable is you have a few options: Sandbags, water barrels, stationary items and solid weights are some popular anchoring options. Once an inflatbale project is designed we can offer installation advice!

Q: How can I maintain the inflatable and continue using it for years to come?

A: It is not hard to keep your inflatables in good shape. Just follow these simple steps:

Keep your inflatable away from sharp objects to prevent punctures and tears.
Always completely deflate your inflatable before storing it.
Be sure your inflatable is completely dry before storing it to prevent the development of mold or mildew.
Store your inflatable in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent fading.
Each year, do a quick inspection of the blower, tether straps and seams to be sure your inflatable is not in need of repairs.

Rooftop Installations of Custom Inflatables

The Professional's How to Guide for Rooftop Installations of Inflatables

Rooftop installations of cold-air inflatables are not something to be taken lightly. They are not the same as helium rooftop installations or ground installations. Because of the sheer height involved and the special considerations a rooftop installation entails, you'll need to be extra cautious.  This article will outline the necessary steps for rooftop installations. However, if you own an inflatable or are thinking of buying one, I strongly suggest you hire a professional to conduct at least your first install.

Step 1 - Make Sure You Have the Necessary Equipment

Before you begin, check to be sure you have:

  • Inflatable
  • Blower System
  • Set of Double Cambuckles (minimum 4)
  • Caribiner Clips
  • Anchors and eyebolts
  • Tether straps
  • Tarp
  • Extension Cord
  • Hammer Drill
  • 3/4” Masonry Bit
  • Lead Anchors (minimum 4)

It is NOT recommended that you attempt inflation in winds that exceed 20 mph.

It may also be necessary to get a permit because rooftop installations are not allowed in every city. Always check before proceeding. If you choose to use a professional installation company, they will generally secure the permit for you.

Step 2 - Inspect the Rooftop

Take time to walk the rooftop and make mental notes.  Are the walls brick or cement? These make the best anchor points.  Is there a good line of sight for passing traffic? If so, that's where you'll want to place the inflatable if possible. Are there tree limbs or power lines that will interfere with or come in direct contact with an inflatable? If you can't cut limbs or avoid power lines, choose another location. Either could seriously damage the inflatable and/or you during the installation.

Step 3 - Find the Electrical Source

Cold-air inflatables are able to remain upright because they use an internal blower.  These blowers require electricity to operate. Most inflatables require a 20-amp circuit breaker, preferably on a non-switched power source.  Is there a suitable power source on the roof?  If not, contact the landlord of the building or a qualified electrician.  The best option will be to wire the roof with a constant flow of power that is not turned off at night.  If it is not feasible to install a permanent power source, a generator may be used.

Step 4 - Locate the Best Anchor Points

The anchors are the devices that hold your inflatable in the location you choose.  In order to insert the anchors, you will need to locate sturdy anchor points.  As I mentioned earlier, the best anchor points are in concrete block or the mortar between bricks.  You will need to place each anchor at a 45º angle between the top tether strap of your inflatable and the surface.  When you anchor to block or mortar, you eliminate the need to mar the roof's surface while still keeping your inflatable in place.

WARNING:  Never connect tether straps to air-conditioning units, gas pipes, or electrical lines!

Step 5 - Install Lead Anchors

That's it!  Just connect the anchors to the balloon, inflate it as usual and you'll have a sight that can be seen for miles around! Need help peforming a ground installation? Our ground installation video will show you how.

A hammer drill with a 3/4” masonry bit for pre-drilling holes for lead anchors is preferred.  Measure approximately 12” down along the wall of the building for hole placement.  Next, install the anchors into the holes by using a hammer or mallet.  Finally, screw the eyebolts onto the end of each anchor.  Always wear safety goggles and follow safety precautions.

The Pros and Cons of Ropes and Tethers for Giant Inflatables

The Pros and Cons of Using Ropes and Tethers for Inflatables

If you've been around inflatables for long at all, you know giant cold-air and sealed inflatables need some apparatus to hold them upright.  Because of their height and other physical attributes, these types of inflatables require stabilization.  In addition, if used outdoors on sidewalks or rooftops, cold-air and sealed inflatables have to have a way to battle back against the elements.

There are two common methods for anchoring inflatables: ropes and tethers.

Both are essentially made from the same materials: polyester, cotton, nylon or a blend.  Let's take a look at the pros and cons of each.

Tethered Inflatable

Ropes

Depending on the type and size, ropes can be as strong as tethers if you use mountaineering-grade rope (not the plastic/polypropylene type).  In addition, rope comes in various sizes so you can get a cleaner look with smaller inflatables by using a smaller, not-so-obvious rope that diminishes the sight line. Ropes have a couple of special requirements of which you'll want to be aware.  First, they can be difficult to fine-tune.  Because ropes have no built-in adjusters, they must be completely untied then retied to make them longer or shorter.

Also, ropes require the ability to tie marine knots to ensure they stay secure.  If the person on-site who will be installing the inflatable doesn’t have this ability, you will likely have a problem.  Also, if your inflatable is part of a mobile marketing campaign and you'll have a variety of installers at various locations, you may not have foreknowledge of who can and can't tie the required knots.

If you have a strong preference for ropes or you've ordered an inflatable made overseas that didn't give you the option of tethers, you can visit this site for instructions on tying the nine basic marine knots.

Tethers

Tethers (also called webbing) are, essentially, flat ropes with a few important exceptions.  Their exceptional strength makes them common gear for auto racing, climbing, parachuting, cargo hoisting and - of course - inflatables installations.  At Landmark, we typically use tether straps instead of ropes because they not only look more professional, but they're easier for the casual inflatable installer to use. Tethers give consistent performance with no knot-tying skills required.

You can easily adjust the length of the tether strap since they come equipped with hardware that makes lengthening or shortening the strap quick and easy.  Especially if it's a one-man (or woman!) job like this one.

Both ropes and tethers are used for inflatables installations.  However, at Landmark we take great care in determining the best anchoring systems for each inflatable we make.  After years of experience with both, our recommendation is tethers because - simply put - we've never had a tether system fail.

Summer Hazards for Advertising Inflatables

Lightening Storm

Summer Weather Hazards for Advertising Inflatables

Summer brings its own set of challenges when it comes to inflatables. Heat isn't a problem for inflatables, but storms of various sorts can certainly do major damage. The most common threat to your inflatable during the summer months however, is wind!

During a storm, lightning can stop your inflatable in its tracks in several ways. If the power goes out so will your blower, which means your balloon will deflate. The high winds that often come with storms can tear tether straps or anchor points on your inflatable. Unsecured objects can also hit your inflatable tearing or otherwise damaging the material.

You would do well to monitor weather forecasts several days prior to the scheduled use of your inflatable and, of course, pick the most optimal days possible. However, if you notice dark clouds beginning to form in the distance, go ahead and deflate your balloon prior to the storm developing.

It's best to not only deflate cold-air inflatables, but also to roll up the balloon and secure it. Once the storm has passed, it is advisable to re-inflate and allow the balloon to completely dry before packing it away. NEVER LEAVE A WET INFLATABLE PACKED UP – IT WILL MOLD AND ROT.

We never recommend deflating DURING a storm.

Once high winds are in progress, deflation (or inflation for that matter) is very dangerous. The inflatable could easily get away from you or literally take flight with you in tow resulting in serious injury. The cost of an inflatable is a small price to pay to ensure your safety and the safety of others. If a storm is in progress, leave your inflatable and seek shelter for yourself.

As mentioned earlier, heat isn’t a problem for inflatables. Heat can cause problems, however, with the environment surrounding your inflatable. Take caution when inflating your balloon on hot asphalt (or asphalt rooftops). These surfaces can often have spots of melted tar that can possibly stain, stick to, tear, melt and otherwise harm your inflatable. It’s important to protect the inflatable by setting it on a tarp for inflation, usage and deflation. This will prevent the tar from sticking to the inflatable.

If you pay attention to your surroundings and the weather, and take a few precautionary steps toward keeping your inflatable protected, you should have a safe and profitable summer season.

Winterizing Your Advertising Inflatables

Posted in Tips and Tricks

Brrr... It's Too Cold To Fly!

If you live or work in cold-weather climates, you're sure to be dragging out your coat, hat, and gloves soon. It's fall-time and that - needless-to-say - means colder weather. It also means your helium inflatables probably need to be packed away until spring. Why? Helium contracts in cold weather, which means your inflatables will likely be grounded. Yes, you can fly helium-filled inflatables in winter months, but the process is a bit complicated. (More on that another time.) Usually, helium inflatables are packed away and other types are brought out for use during cold-weather months.

Unless you plan to use smaller helium inflatables indoors in climate-controlled environments, you'll want to make arrangements to prep and pack these balloons. It isn't hard to prep them for winter storage. You simply need to follow three easy steps to ensure your helium inflatables will keep safely over the winter. That way they will be ready to draw in crowds from far and wide when the weather turns warmer.

All inflatables need to be completely dry before deflating and packing for any length of time. The product should be stored in a climate-controlled environment that is free of moisture. Packing your inflatable when damp, or storing it in a highly humid area can result in mold or mildew that will damage or possibly destroy your balloon.

  • Step One - Clean the outside of your inflatable with alcohol (like you'd buy in a drugstore) and dust with talc powder. The alcohol will help get rid of dirt and control mold while the talc powder will keep the inflatable from sticking to itself while in storage.
  • Step Two - Inspect your equipment. Consider replacing the tether line if it’s worn or dirty. Check your cambuckles. Are they bent or warped? They might require replacing, too. Make sure internal lights work (if applicable) and that you have repair kits on hand as well.
  • Step Three - Carefully roll your inflatable (do not fold) and pack it in a sturdy box to protect the material from being crushed or punctured.

By following these simple procedures, your inflatables will hibernate peacefully throughout the cold weather and be ready to boost your business again in the spring.

Getting Your Advertising Balloon To Stand

Even A Girl Can Do It:  My Advertising Balloon Installation Adventure

Giant Inflatable Powerball at Casino

Often when people call Landmark they ask how difficult inflatables are to set up. We usually tell them that basic advertising balloon installations require one to two people. Now, I'm not a large woman and I was able to do these set ups and take downs with minimum assistance. Don't get me wrong, I probably wouldn't attempt a rooftop installation alone and I'd certainly advise a do-it-yourselfer to get professional help for their first install. As for tradeshows or ground installations, however, it's a very simple process and I was out to prove that once and for all.

My mission? To set up two inflatable lotto balls for one of our gaming customers who is doing a promotion for Powerball Slots at Grand Casino in Mille Lacs and Grand Casino Hinckley. The inflatable draws attention to their promotion from outside the casino and reinforces the brand in an environment where competition for attention is extremely high.

When I arrived at the first job, I was sure the grounds manager thought he was on Candid Camera.  He was expecting a big truck with half a dozen brawny guys to show up and he got neither. He barely believed me when I said I was the only one on "the crew" and that the balloon was in the back of my SUV.

At 115-pounds, the balloon weighed almost as much as I did! I pulled the Powerball from my truck and began the process by the book (a.k.a. our installation guide). I sorted through my parts and pieces (everything you need for installation is included) then looked for a good location, an electrical source and the best anchor points for the balloon. I got it out of the storage bag (by myself, thank you!) and positioned it to face the road.  Next came the attachment of the tether straps.

Here’s a tip for getting the inflatable to easily stand up and look great the first time.

Find out which way the wind is blowing and keep the tether straps on the windward side somewhat tight. The straps on the opposite side should stay loose at the beginning of the inflation. As the inflatable fills with air, gradually release the tension on the windward straps and tighten the opposing straps. Using this method, the wind will help the inflatable stand up with minimal assistance from the installer.

Finally, I attached the blower system, pulled her in and let her fly (well, in a manner of speaking). As usual, I got a lot of honks once the balloon was inflated. The guys who work maintenance at the Mille Lacs casino were very nice but also very skeptical about the whole thing. That is, until I turned the blower on and the giant ball emerged seemingly out of nowhere. Then I had a little respect from them.

While inflatables may be massive in their size and powerful in their ability to attract attention - when it comes to installation - there's really nothing to it.

Using Ground Stakes for Advertising Inflatables

Posted in Tips and Tricks

Ground Stake

Proper Staking Techniques for Advertising Inflatable Ground Installations

Staking cold-air inflatables down for ground installations is an important part of a successful set up. While it may seem like an easy enough task, there are a lot of factors to be considered: Which stakes are best? Are there utility lines buried at your site? Are the weather conditions windy? Will the inflatable be safe from vandalism?

There are several different stakes and techniques, but the professionals here at Landmark Creations recommend using one of the following-

Metal Ground Stakes

Durable, metal ground stakes generally come in 18”- 42” lengths. They cost between $4-$10 and can be found at local farm and fleet stores. They’re great to use on large inflatable ground installations because they are heavyweight, they won’t shear off, and they’re durable. These stakes can even penetrate asphalt giving you a larger selection of where to place your inflatable.

While they are heavyweight and will help your inflatable remain safe (even in windy conditions) there are a few drawbacks. Metal stakes are heavy to transport, and expensive to ship. They also require a heavy mallet to drive them into the ground.

Ground Augers

Ground augers are a durable, lighter weight solution. They can easily screw into the grass by hand or with use of a screwdriver run through the top loop. Augers are inexpensive, and easy to ship. These anchors are good for use on small inflatable ground installations, but they, too, have drawbacks. Ground augers can twist out of the ground if the soil is loose or the conditions are windy so you need to be a bit more selective of where you locate your inflatable.

General Ground Installation Guidelines

1. Choose an area that will provide a good line of sight for your inflatable. After all, the whole purpose is to generate a heavy traffic flow to your business or event.

2. Contact your local utility company in advance of your installation so they can mark ground lines.

3. Be sure your inflatable will be protected from vandals. Choose a location with constant visibility, or one with a fence that can be locked after hours if possible.

4. Locate near a ground fault protected electrical source. Use long extension cords sparingly.

Giving due attention to the location and staking techniques used during your installation will help you have a more successful event.

Performing On-Site Repairs for Advertising Inflatables

Posted in Tips and Tricks

Repairing Damaged Advertising Inflatables During An Event

Aside from your inflatable being stolen, having it damaged in some way during an event is just about the worst thing that can happen. However, there are several ways to quickly rectify the situation so the event can continue as planned.

On-site Repair Techniques

If the tear in your inflatable is relatively small, you may choose one of two ways to repair your balloon on-site. Both sewing and patching the inflatable can hold it long enough to finish the event.

Sewing Your Inflatable

A needle, thread (strong enough to mend your balloon) and spare pieces of fabric are included in the repair kit you received with your inflatable. To repair your balloon, simply pinch the torn material together and sew by hand using small stitches,

Patching Your Inflatable

Patching the tear can be done quickly with a self-adhesive patch. You can also use a standard patch and apply a HH-66 glue to both the patch and inflatable surface. Make sure the patch is big enough to cover an area approximately 1/2 inch larger than the tear.

Call Local Repair Outlets

If you have no desire or ability to repair the inflatable yourself, you can attempt to find a local repair outlet. Call one of the following establishments to ask for help. These types of businesses are generally equipped to repair inflatables:

  • Tent Makers
  • Upholstery Shops
  • Awning Companies
  • Sign Shops
  • Inflatable Rental Companies

Return Your Inflatable To Landmark for Repairs

After the event, the inflatable can be returned to us for permanent repair depending how well the temporary repair is holding. If the temporary patch isn’t holding or is cosmetically unfavorable, send your inflatable to Landmark for repair. If you are able, take a digital picture of the damage and email it to us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.">This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. We may be able to estimate repair costs over the phone. If it is necessary for you to return the inflatable without having sent a digital picture beforehand, rest assured we will call with an estimate prior to performing any work.

If the damage is due to a manufacturing defect or open seam the repair should be covered under your warranty. Landmark will pay for the repair cost as well as return the inflatable via ground shipping if our workmanship is found to be defective. Other types of damage that occur during normal use are not covered by warranty.

Preventing Damage To Your Inflatable

The best recourse is to prevent damage from the onset. Use these tips to help keep your inflatable in the best condition possible.

  1. If winds are greater than 20 mph check the inflatable regularly to ensure it is still securely anchored. In most instances, you’ll want to deflate your inflatable until the conditions become more favorable.
  2. Don’t leave deflated balloons on rooftops. Once you’ve deflated your balloon be sure to carefully pack it and store it in a safe shelter.
  3. Don’t pack your inflatable when wet. Bacteria and mold can eat away the material and cause holes as well as awful odors.
