Alternative rock band Grouplove is known for their unusual approach to...well, just about everything.
So, when they were noodling ideas for eye-popping stage props, they naturally settled on teeth.
That's right. Teeth. A full upper jaw, to be exact...inflatable for convenient use at multiple tour stops.
But they needed their funky custom inflatable right away. So, principal stage designer Erich Meitzner turned to Landmark Creations.
"We wanted to create a unique stage presence and set for Grouplove, that they could take anywhere easily," Meitzner explains.
With Grouplove's input, Landmark designed and built an inflatable arch resembling an upper jaw – gums and all – complete with a whopping 30 feet wide. Suspended from the ceiling, it creates the illusion that the band is performing inside a huge, gaping mouth.
For added impact, Grouplove lead singer Hannah Hooper hand-painted the teeth with the band's name and dozens of spidery "cracks."
The finished product wowed audiences all throughout the tour. In fact, it was such a hit that Grouplove has featured it prominently in their Instagram photography.
Why did Grouplove choose Landmark? According to Meitzner, the key was Landmark's combination of high quality and prompt efficiency. "Great product," he says, "and [they] met our timeline incredibly."
The cover of indie-synth-psychedelic band MGMT's Little Dark Age album displays the face of a sad little clown. When the band was ready to launch their tour, they naturally wanted a stage prop resembling their creepy critter.
When your music tour keeps moving from city to city, you want stage scenery you can set up and take down quickly at every stop.
To meet that need, Life Is Art Studios, a Raleigh, NC-based production company, turned to Landmark Creations.
With a show titled "Dig Your Roots," there's no getting around the need for a few trees. But with a year-long world tour to plan, music management company Big Loud Mountain and their clients, country band Florida Georgia Line, didn't have the option of using the real thing.
