Custom Inflatable Prop Puts Teeth Into Touring Band's Stage Design

Grouplove TeethCustom Inflatable Prop Makes an Impact for Touring Rock Band

Alternative rock band Grouplove is known for their unusual approach to...well, just about everything.

So, when they were noodling ideas for eye-popping stage props, they naturally settled on teeth.

That's right. Teeth. A full upper jaw, to be exact...inflatable for convenient use at multiple tour stops.

But they needed their funky custom inflatable right away. So, principal stage designer Erich Meitzner turned to Landmark Creations.

"We wanted to create a unique stage presence and set for Grouplove, that they could take anywhere easily," Meitzner explains.

With Grouplove's input, Landmark designed and built an inflatable arch resembling an upper jaw – gums and all – complete with a whopping 30 feet wide. Suspended from the ceiling, it creates the illusion that the band is performing inside a huge, gaping mouth.

For added impact, Grouplove lead singer Hannah Hooper hand-painted the teeth with the band's name and dozens of spidery "cracks."

The finished product wowed audiences all throughout the tour. In fact, it was such a hit that Grouplove has featured it prominently in their Instagram photography.

Why did Grouplove choose Landmark? According to Meitzner, the key was Landmark's combination of high quality and prompt efficiency. "Great product," he says, "and [they] met our timeline incredibly."
